How it all began...
Blackgold came to life as my partner and I were working 9-5, feeling tired, stressed and run down on the daily. It wasn’t sustainable- we knew things had to change, and relying on caffeine wasn’t the answer.
We spent countless hours researching, and trying all sorts of different supplements to try improve our health and lifestyle. In this search we discovered Chaga tea and were soon introduced to nature’s world of medicinal mushrooms- only to realise Mum had been making me traditional soups and cooking with these mushrooms since I was a kid.
Being second-generation Chinese, I grew up always turning my nose at my mum’s mysterious pot of miscellaneous and foreign ingredients that had been simmering for hours and reluctantly drinking it as mum had instructed. But as an adult I found out this was the nutritional goodness my body was missing and yearning for that I was no longer getting after moving out of home. But I didn’t want to spend hours searching for the traditional ingredients, and prepare a big pot of soup.
We started experimenting with other functional mushrooms by mixing them into our morning coffee every day. The difference was drastic, both mentally & physically, so we knew we would never go a day without our beloved mushrooms, and Blackgold was born.
What’s up with the name Black Gold?
This goes back to one of our first mushrooms we discovered – Chaga. Having a charcoal appearance on the outside and orange on the inside, we jokingly called our new morning brew “Black gold Latte” as it felt like we had just discovered gold with all the benefits we felt.
